The New Zealand Hydrogen Council & BECA invited you to the:

Q1 : Hydrogen Speaker Series : Aerospace & Aviation

Hydrogen Council’s inaugural Quarterly Speaker Series exploring the role of hydrogen in Aerospace & Aviation in Aotearoa New Zealand

Accelerating the role of hydrogen in Aerospace & Aviation in Aotearoa ✈️
Thank you once again for our fantastic attendance at our Hydrogen Council events!  Our inaugural Q1: Hydrogen Speaker Series was recently held in Auckland where leaders across the aerospace sector highlighted how New Zealand is positioned at the forefront of global low emissions aviation innovation.

Key insights and takeaways included:

  • Robinson Research Institute update on cryo-electric propulsion and superconducting motors, which could enable the ultra-light, high-power systems required for next-generation aircraft.

  • Crux Aerospace highlighted their development programme to achieve thousands of hours of hydrogen-powered flight experience to accelerate commercial deployment of hydrogen electric aircraft in New Zealand through their partnerships with international and emerging aerospace innovators.

  • Development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) through partnerships like Project Pūrākau, led by LanzaJet, exploring domestic SAF production from forestry biomass to strengthen fuel security and reduce emissions.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate how New Zealand is playing a globally significant role in aviation—from advanced propulsion technologies to sustainable fuels and enabling infrastructure.

Thank you to Dr. Grant Lumsden (Robinson Research Institute), Dana Goodwin & Dr. David Gawith (Crux Aerospace) and Dean Williams (LanzaJet), to our Chair, Sir Stephen Tindall and a huge shout out to BECA for their fantastic support as hosts of our inaugural Q1: Speaker Series.
