Dr. Grant Lumsden
Principal Programme Engineer, Robinson Research Institute
Dr. Grant Lumsden received a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Queensland, in Brisbane Australia in 1988 and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (Thermodynamics) from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 1996.
Grant has worked for most of his career in engine controls and hybrid powertrain development within the automotive industry in Europe. He has also held roles in government and the wider innovation ecosystem in New Zealand.
He is currently a Principal Programme Engineer at the Robinson Research Institute in Wellington, New Zealand. He is part of the superconducting machines group and his focus is on design and prototyping new, high specific output superconducting electric machines for aviation applications, cryogenic thermal systems development, and transitioning technology to commercial partners.
