In the 7 years at HWR, Gareth initiated the hydrogen programme for HWR and has since built and led the team to deliver dual fuel truck technology through Change Fuel Technologies, and has persisted to have the HWR Hydrogen site built to dispense to the Group's trucks based in the Southland area. Gareth initiated the HWR Group's transport planning and scheduling software company called mytransport, which is responsible for planning and optimising loads across it's 1300 heavy trucks.
Gareth is also responsible for the HWR Group's IT and Innovation divisions, providing technology and support to its 49 businesses and 2000 employees in NZ and Australia.
Prior to joining HWR, Gareth spent 12 years at Rio Tinto in Business Improvement and Technology Leadership roles based in Invercargill (Tiwai) and Brisbane head office.
Gareth is a trustee on his family's farming business, leading a change of business from Sheep and Beef to Dairy and recently the sale of this business on a 600 acre block of land in Southland.
Gareth is halfway into his second term of 3 years on the Myross Bush School Board of Trustees.
During his time at HWR, Gareth has represented strategic initiatives and engaged with the HWR Board of Directors on a quarterly basis.
