Refinery/ Petrochemical

Refineries and petrochemical plants are some of the world’s largest consumers of hydrogen. Hydrogen is used to process crude oil into refined fuels such as petrol and diesel and also for removing contaminants such as sulphur.  As more stringent fuel quality regulations are adopted globally and consumption of low quality heavy crude oil grows, it is projected that hydrogen demand will increase. A decline in crude oil quality, and growing demand from developing economies such as China and India is also expected to increase hydrogen demand going forward.  Electrolysis can play a key role, both to supply the increased demand for hydrogen for refineries and petrochemical plants and also to lower the CO2 emissions from the facility and the fuel itself.
